Mexico Tourist visa

For travel to Mexico for tourism, your visa requirement depends on your nationality and valid visas or residency permits you hold for other countries.

1. Visa Exemptions

You do not need a Mexican tourist visa if you meet either of the following criteria:

  • Eligible Passports: You hold a valid passport from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, any Schengen Area country, or select Latin American nations (e.g., Chile, Colombia, Peru).

  • Valid Visas or Permanent Residence: Regardless of your nationality, you do not need a visa if you hold a valid, unexpired multiple-entry visa or permanent residency from any of the following:

    • United States (e.g., valid B1/B2 tourist visa or Green Card)

    • Canada

    • United Kingdom

    • Japan

    • Any Schengen Area nation

2. Standard Tourist Visa Application Process

If you are required to apply for a tourist visa before traveling:

  1. Schedule an Appointment: Book an interview through the official Mexican Consular portal (MiConsulado) at your nearest Mexican embassy or consulate.

  2. Prepare Documentation:

    • Passport valid for the duration of your stay

    • Completed visa application form

    • Passport-style photograph

    • Proof of financial solvency (recent bank statements or pay stubs showing consistent income)

    • Payment of the consular fee (~$53–$56 USD)

  3. Attend Interview: Submit your original documents in person at the embassy/consulate.

3. Entry Requirements at the Border

Regardless of whether you enter visa-free or with a tourist visa, you must present the following to immigration officers upon arrival:

  • Valid Passport: Must remain valid throughout your stay.

  • Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM): The tourist card/entry form filled out upon entry (often included digitally via airlines for air arrivals, or completed manually at land crossings).

  • Supporting Documents: Immigration officers may request proof of accommodation (hotel bookings), proof of onward/return travel, and sufficient funds for your trip.

Note: Tourist stays are granted for up to 180 days, though the exact duration permitted is determined at the border by the immigration officer.
