Russia Tourist Visa

Getting a Russian tourist visa involves two main routes: the Unified E-Visa (for eligible short-term visitors) and the Traditional Paper Tourist Visa (for longer stays or non-eligible nationalities).

Option 1: Unified E-Visa (Simplest Option)

Citizens of over 50 countries (including EU nations, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and others) can apply entirely online without needing a paper invitation.

  • Validity & Duration: Single-entry visa valid for 120 days from issue, permitting a stay of up to 30 days.

  • Requirements: Digital passport photo, passport valid for at least 6 months with blank pages, completed online application, and payment of the processing fee (~$52).

  • Processing Time: Around 4 calendar days.

  • How to Apply: Directly on the official Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-visa portal.

Option 2: Traditional Paper Tourist Visa

For citizens of countries not covered by the e-visa scheme (such as the United States, Canada, and the UK) or for travelers needing longer or multi-entry stays, a traditional visa stamped in the passport is required.

Requirements:

Tourist Support Letter (Invitation) - An official confirmation/voucher issued by an authorized Russian travel agency or hotel.

Passport - Valid for at least 6 months past your visa expiration date, with at least 2 adjacent blank pages

.Visa Application Form - Completed online via the official Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (visa.kdmid.ru).

Photos & Insurance - Standard passport photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm). EU and UK citizens typically require proof of medical travel insurance valid in Russia.

Duration - Single or double-entry for up to 30 days (US citizens can qualify for a 3-year multiple-entry tourist visa under bilateral agreements).

Key Travel Notes

  • Registration: Once in Russia, your hotel or host must register your visa with local immigration authorities if staying in one location for more than 7 business days.

  • Travel Advisories: Multiple western governments (including the US State Department) maintain active travel advisories recommending against travel to Russia.
